I had a wonderful trip with the Buildings Lime Forum Ireland to Spike Island of Cork Harbour last week. On our trip we took a look at the recent restoration works and viewed the many buildings on the island. The architecture of the buildings was nice but functional, a bleak place for the poor souls incarcerated within its walls. About 40,000 prisoners were transported to Van Diemen’s land. They had a choice to stay in Spike Island and serve out there servitude or help grow the population of Australia, I know what I would do!
